Venmo and Chime are two finance apps that have gained massive popularity in recent times for good reasons. While Chime describes itself as a financial technology company, Venmo had to settle for the title: social payments app, but everyone can agree they’re both cornerstones in today’s finance world.
Given that both of the platforms are pretty popular already, hoping for some kind of synergy between them shouldn’t be out of the question. However, whether or not Chime works with Venmo depends on how you define “working together.”
In this article, you’ll learn how to integrate Chime and Venmo to make both finance platforms work together. Also, I’ll answer the question: “does Chime work with Venmo?” taking the different scenarios you might be hoping for into account. Without further ado, let’s get into the article.

Does Chime Work with Venmo?
When the average person thinks of two mobile banking platforms working together, they usually think along the lines of being able to transfer money between both effortlessly. In answering this question, I’ll also try to see Chime “working with” Venmo along those lines.
To start, if you hoped you would be able to send money to a Venmo customer from your Chime account, you’d be disappointed. And to be fair, you shouldn’t even be; I can’t think of a single service that facilitates cross-platform payments of that sort.
However, if you were only hoping for some synergy, like the ability to add your Chime debit card to your Venmo account, it’s certainly possible. Linking your debit card to Venmo this way opens up a new world of opportunities, one of which is the ability to transfer money across the platforms.
If you wanted a bank you can link to your Venmo account to withdraw your money and perform similar transactions, you’ll struggle to find anything better than Chime. Chime works just as well as a traditional bank since it offers debit cards that you can use for your paid apps.
At this point, you should already know that getting Chime to work with Venmo requires you to link one of your Chime debit cards with your Venmo account. In the following sections, I’ll show you how to do that to make Chime work with Venmo.
How to Link Chime Debit Card with Venmo
There are two primary ways to link your Chime account with your Venmo app. For one, you can add your debit card as a funding source on Venmo, which will make it possible to fund your account and withdraw payments using that Chime account.
Linking your debit card is undoubtedly the best option since it facilitates the quickest payments between Chime and Venmo. Here are the steps required to link your Chime debit card with your Venmo account to ensure Chime works perfectly with the payment app.
- Choose to add a new debit card to your Venmo account
Venmo offers an option within its app that lets you add a debit card to your account. You can access this option by opening Venmo’s in-app settings and tapping on the bank icon to go directly to the Payment Methods page. From there, you can see and select the option to add a card.
- Enter information from your Chime debit card
When you get to the page in question, grab the Chime debit card you intend to add to your Venmo account. Using the card in question, complete the form you’re required to fill out to link your debit card to your Venmo account.
You don’t have to use a regular plastic debit card with Venmo. If you have the temporary electronic debit card from Chime, you can use it as well; as long as you’ve tried it for a transaction and it’s working exactly as you expected.
- Verify the card if necessary
In some cases, you may have to verify your Chime card before you can start using it with Venmo. The verification process is nothing extremely problematic; it usually involves Venmo making some little transactions and you confirming the amounts.
After verifying the card, you should be able to use it with your Venmo account. In addition to being able to use the card as a funding source to add money to your account, you should also be able to withdraw from your Venmo account to the card.
How to Transfer Money from Venmo to Chime
Like with most other similar platforms, you can easily transfer money from your Venmo to your Chime account once you add a debit card or bank account. If you were hoping to make those kinds of transfers, this section should help greatly.
A quick heads up: it’s still impossible to send money from your Venmo account to a Chime account you do not own. One of the steps required to transfer money across the account is linking your Chime debit card, a step that’s only possible if you’re the owner of the account in question.
With that said, here are the steps required to transfer money from Venmo to Chime.
- Add your Chime debit card
I think I’ve stressed this more than enough; you need to add a debit card from Chime to your Venmo account if you want any chance of being able to transfer money across your accounts on both platforms. If you haven’t linked your card yet, you can do that by reading the preceding section.
- Choose the “Transfer to Bank” option from the menu
Yes, even if you only linked a debit card, you should be able to withdraw to it using the Transfer to Bank option from your Venmo app. Simply sign in to your Venmo account, open the in-app menu by pressing on the hamburger icon, and tap on “Transfer to Bank” to the right of your account balance.
- Enter the amount you need to transfer
After selecting the option, Venmo should load up an interface that lets you enter how much you intend to transfer using the feature. You should ensure you have money on your account at least to be able to send any. If you do, enter something below what you currently have and continue.
Before entering how much you intend to send, however, it’s also helpful to review the Venmo transfer limits. If you have an unverified account, the maximum you can withdraw is $999 weekly, while that limit becomes $19,999 when you verify your account.
- Select your Chime debit card from the “Select card or bank…” option
After entering how much you intend to transfer, you should see an option that reads “Select card or bank…” When you tap on that, you should see a list of all the cards and bank accounts you’ve previously linked to your Venmo account. Select your Chime debit card from the list.
After selecting the appropriate card, the option to transfer should stop being greyed out. Click on the Transfer button and choose how fast you want the transfer to be. If you opted for an instant transfer, you should receive the money instantly, while the regular transfer option might take up to three days.
